One Hour Today OR Work Locally

Saturday December 2, from 11 am to 12 noon at the Harris Teeter on Raeford Rd. -- to let Harris Teeter's management know that "Enough is enough! We won't eat pork that's packaged with the abuse of North Carolina workers."

From Justice@Smithfield organizer Libby Manly: "Smithfield creates a dangerous workplace with fast line speeds and inadequate training, and then even fires some workers when they get hurt and denies their Workers Compensation claims.

"Our request of Harris Teeter is quite simple: Remove Smithfield products from the Tar Heel plant until the abuse ends. Consumers care about where their food comes from and how it is produced, and retailers, like North Carolina-based Harris Teeter, have an obligation to us -- their customers -- to provide the best products available.

Consumers and retailers together, armed with the facts about Smithfield, can influence the world's largest pork producer to treat North Carolina workers with the dignity and respect they deserve."

A delegation of local religious leaders will enter the store on Raeford Rd. to speak with the Harris Teeter management while others will maintain a public presence of support.

Please participate with other people of faith and conscience Dec. 2 for just one hour -- from 11 am to 12 noon -- to support the workers at the Tar Heel plant in nearby Tar Heel, NC.

I am seriously interested in the welfare of any employee; however, I am more concerned about the 600 illegal aliens working at Smithfield Foods. I would hope the American workers at Smithfield Foods would be just as concerned. Once the illegal aliens are removed, the company will be forced once again to raise wages and improve working conditions in order to get Americans to work. When any company can hire low wage employees, such as illegal aliens, where is their motivation to raise wages and improve working conditions?
Vote to keep the union out since they have aligned themselves WORLDWIDE for the advancement in the United States in support for illegal aliens. The union is working against you right now. Wake up!

Smithfield is one of the candidates in the Jobs with Justice "Grinch of the Year" contest to determine the national figure who has done the most harm to working families this year. You can cast your vote at http://www.jwj.org/grinch. Please spread the word!
